Stadionplatz
In stürmischen Zeiten, schlagen Wellen über Ufer.
Der Stadionplatz wird geflutet. Der Ort veraendert sich. Die Kuehle ist angenehm. Manche planschen, andere sonnen sich. Im Schatten bei den Baeumen genießt man auch den Duft von Taglilie, Lindenblueten oder Storchschnabel aus den polsterfoermigen Beeten.
Passanten wandeln wie auf Inseln zwischen einem temporaeren See. Sanfte Mulden im Asphalt als Wasserbecken werden kontrolliert gefuellt oder trocken gehalten.
Eine Vielfalt an Nutzern findet hier ihren Platz. Freestyle-Biker, Troedelmarktler, Outdoor-Gamer, Mittagspausenjausner, sich vom Einkaufen Ausruhende, Lernende und Viele mehr halten sich in den Gastgaerten der Gastronomie, an den gedeckten Sitzgelegenheiten oder nahe der Fontaenen auf.
Ohne See nimmt der Platz auch Festivitaeten auf...
Aufsteigende hohe Strahlen der Fontaenenreihe beleben den Platz, bleiben den Besuchern in Erinnerung und blenden den Straßenverkehr optisch und akustisch aus.
Der Schnellbahngast nimmt kurz dieses Entree der Stadt wahr. Auch von der Bahnlinie aus wird die Weite und mannigfache Orientierung des Platzes spuerbar. Helle Betonplatten holen dies ins Bewusstsein und wirken identitaetsstiftend.
Selten tritt „La Óla“ über die Stadiontribuenen. Dann jedoch ueberfluten die Fans den gesamten Stadionplatz. Es wird gefeiert und gelacht, geschrien und nicht nur Wellen geschlagen.
Der Stadionplatz macht das mit.
Nach Beschluss der Stadt Graz lauten nun die Namen des Platzkonglomerats nördlich des Fußballstadions Liebenau: „Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz" und „Ivica-Osim-Platz". Sie werden begleitet von den Straßen Conrad-von-Hötzendorf-Straße, Ulrich-Lichtenstein-Gasse und Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Gasse.

The Square north of the soccer arena Graz Liebenau is renamed as "Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz" and "Ivica-Osim-Platz".
In stormy times, waves are made.
The Stadionplatz is flooded. The location changes. The cooling water pleasant. People are splashing about, others sunbathing. In the shade of the trees some take in the scent of daylilies, lime blossoms or cranesbills from the pillow-shaped patches.
Passers-by stroll on the islands between the temporary lake. Gentle hollows in the asphalt surface act as water basins, filled or drained with the press of a button.
A variety of people can be found here: bikers freestyling on their BMX, flea market vendors, people playing outdoor games, those taking a lunch break, students working, strolling shoppers. They linger in the restaurants, on the covered seats or close to the fountains.
Without the lakes the square can also be used for festivities...
The high spray from the row of fountains, which shield the noise and sight of traffic, breathes life into the square and leaves lasting memories with visitors.
Passengers on the express train sense their entrance into Graz, the width and orientation of the manifold space palpable from the tracks. The bright concrete slabs aid in raising this awareness, endowing identity to the space.
On occasion “la ola” rolls through the soccer stadium. The fans flood the square, celebrating and laughing, crying and getting into hot water.
The Stadionplatz will ride the wave.
